Where the Snow Is Cold, But My Gardening Ambitions Are Red-Hot!

Who Am I?
Just an IT Nerd by day that moved to Northern BC and decided that starting a Walipini Greenhouse was a rad idea so I could grow food year-round. The catch is, I don’t know anything about gardening.
It’s going to be hard, there will be a lot of plant based death and hopefully some amazing fun.
From Novice to Northern Gardener
Join me as I navigate the trials and triumphs of year-round gardening in the unforgiving climate of Northern Canada. With no prior experience and a heart full of ambition, I’ve embarked on a mission to cultivate life in the most unexpected of places. My journey began with the construction of a walipini greenhouse—a sunken sanctuary designed to harness the earth’s natural warmth. Despite the challenges of permafrost 8 months of the year and unpredictable weather, each day brings new lessons and a deeper appreciation for the resilience of nature. Follow my story as I strive to turn a dream into reality, one seed at a time.
What started as a whimsical idea has grown into a passionate pursuit of sustainable living. My adventure in gardening began with a simple question: Can I grow my own food in a place where winter reigns supreme? Armed with online tutorials and a fierce determination, I dug deep—literally—and created an underground greenhouse. This journey is about more than just growing vegetables; it’s about challenging the limits of what’s possible and finding joy in the unexpected. Join me as I share my experiences, from the thrill of the first sprout, the sorrow of the plants that didn’t make it to the trials of battling the elements.
